1965 Ford Mustang GT Fastback

When Ford first launched the Mustang, it anticipated sales at the modest figure of 100,000 units. Unbeknownst to the company, it had started a revolution in what would be one of the most iconic vehicles in shape and name. It was originally offered with three choices of transmission in either a soft top convertible with the option of power assist or a hardtop. Power was sent to the rear wheels via a 3- or 4-speed manual or a 3-speed automatic transmission.

This particular 1965 Ford Mustang GT Fastback was sold new at Downtown Motors in Sacramento, California, to its original owner, who specified his new GT in the spectacular color combination of Ivy Green Metallic with a Deluxe White interior. Power comes from the A-code 289 CI V-8 backed by a 4-speed manual transmission. As per the window sticker and original door ID tag, this stunning GT fastback was equipped with the closed emission system, dual redline tires, GT equipment, the interior decor group, power steering, an AM radio, tinted glass, a full-length console, padded visors, the visibility group and styled steel wheels.

With only two California owners, this example had been kept in incredible original condition and was a prime candidate for a comprehensive rotisserie restoration. The restoration was completed by marque expert Fix Motorsports, who stripped the body to bare metal before repainting it in its original Ivy Green Metallic color. The drivetrain was rebuilt and the engine compartment was detailed with correct finishes just as it left the factory. The undercarriage was detailed with batch primer, overspray, paint daubs and chalk marks as well.

As per result of the no-expense-spared restoration, this 1965 Mustang has gone on to win some prestigious awards including MCA Gold in Concours Trailered, ACAA Junior and ACAA Senior, and it was nominated for the year-end AACA National Award. Examples restored to this level are rarely seen and would be a Mustang enthusiast’s dream.
