1965 Shelby Cobra CSX4000 Series

Produced on July 10, 2006, this 1965 Shelby Cobra CSX4000 Series was completed by renowned HRE Motorsports of Freeport, New York. Carroll Shelby’s “continuation series” of his beloved 427 Cobra gave rise to an all-new generation of Cobra owners demanding the ultimate in Cobra authenticity, which of course also required no less than Shelby’s imprimatur. CSX4000 Series Cobras are more than just newly built; they are based on a stronger steel frame, the components are made of modern alloys and composites, and cooling and heat-shielding are much improved. In addition, bodies are now available in aluminum, carbon fiber and fiberglass, the latter forming the body of the iconic example offered here.

Parallel to the CSX4000 project, Shelby began producing his own 427 FE blocks and heads to the original specifications, with a choice of cast iron or aluminum materials. Finished in black with a matching black interior, black roll bar and quick-jack bumpers, this CSX4000 Series is powered by a Shelby Engines alloy 427 V-8 built to 467 CI. Correctly finished with a 4-barrel Holley dual-feed carburetor on an aluminum Shelby intake, black-finned Shelby valve covers and HPC-coated headers and side pipes, this burly big-block was balanced, built and dyno-tested by legendary NASCAR and ARCA race engine builder Ernie Elliot, whose accomplishments include powering his brother, Bill, to a 20-year Hall of Fame career that included two Daytona 500 victories and the 1988 Winston Cup Championship.

A wood-rimmed Shelby steering wheel, Shelby American knock-off wheels with Avon tires, fire extinguisher, tool kit and car cover round out this superb Cobra, which is documented with a CD of build photos, components list, dyno sheet, Shelby Certificate of Authenticity and a photo of Carroll Shelby signing the included original deposit form.
