The Story

Introduced to the public at the 1964 New York World’s Fair, the Mustang immediately became a cultural phenomenon and sparked what would soon be known as “Mustang fever.” While early cars were offered only as coupes and convertibles, the sleek fastback body style joined the lineup in 1965, helping solidify the Mustang’s performance image. By then, Ford had also replaced the 260 CI V-8 with the more capable 289, offered in several output levels. GT models benefited from the more powerful 225 and 271 HP versions, along with upgraded suspension components and performance-oriented tires to better match their enhanced performance. The result was a car that combined everyday usability with unmistakable style and V-8 excitement—qualities that continue to make the 1966 Mustang GT fastback one of the most desirable early Mustangs today.

The recipient of a comprehensive restoration, this 1966 Ford Mustang GT Fastback is an outstanding example that has earned some of the hobby’s most prestigious accolades, including an AACA Grand National Award, an AACA Gold Medal and multiple MCA Grand National wins. Finished in its factory-correct green paint scheme with white rocker stripes, this Mustang presents beautifully, with proper GT badging, grille-mounted driving lights, and dual exhaust outlets with chrome tips exiting through the rear valance.

As a genuine GT, the Mustang utilizes and A-Code 289 CI V-8 rated at 225 HP, topped by a 4-barrel carburetor and paired with an automatic transmission. Well optioned from new, it’s additionally equipped with power steering, power brakes, factory air conditioning, and an original Ford 8-track stereo system.

Inside, the black Pony interior is both sporty and well appointed, featuring bucket seats, a center console, wood-grain trim, a wood-grain steering wheel and correct rubber embossed floor mats. The car is accompanied by its original key set, owner’s manual, window sticker, as well as restoration documents and invoices.
