1966 Shelby GT350 Fastback

The 1966 Shelby GT350s are aesthetically very similar to the original 1965s, but they were a little less purpose-built race car and now more of a road-going sports car. They retained their back seats, had slightly softer suspension, full under-car exhaust systems and visually now had distinguishing rear quarter windows in place of the vents found on the '65 Shelby. They did, however, retain the special 306 HP K-Code HiPo engine and 4-speed transmission, as well as a new optional Cruise-O-Matic automatic transmission.

This well documented 1966 Shelby GT350 was originally ordered on March 24, 1966 and shipped to Marv Tonkin Ford Sales in Portland, Oregon. As per its Shelby invoice, it was finished in rare factory Sapphire blue with white LeMans stripes. Under the hood is the standard 289 CI HiPo producing 306 HP and backed by the factory aluminum T-10 4-speed transmission. The engine is decorated with a Cobra-script aluminum intake, valve covers and oil pan.

Shortly after the car was purchased by its original owner, it was shipped to his home of Aiea, Hawaii. The original owner retained ownership until his passing in 2002. The car then changed hands a few times before a long-time Shelby club member began its complete and fastidious restoration to SAAC Concours specifications. Great attention to detail was paid, not only on top but the underside as well, to bring the car to this absolutely stunning state. This 1966 Shelby GT350 is an example of what a comprehensive nut-and-bolt, no expense spared, rotisserie restoration can look like.
