1976 BMW B2 Alpina Sedan

In 1975, BMW launched the E12 528, prompting Alpina to launch its modified “B2” version. The tuned car featured a modified 3.0L/230 HP straight-6 breathing through three double-barrel carburetors.The Alpina B2 3.0L engine (M30) had already had its premiere at BMW in 1971, and it was fitted in the E9 coupe and the E3 saloon. After the spa treatment in Buchloe with a modified combustion chamber, forged pistons and a modified crankshaft drive, the straight-6 produced 230 HP at 6,750 RPM and 265 Nm maximum torque at 4,500 RPM. This engine was now fitted to the very classic 5 Series (E12), and there was a front spoiler to go with it as well as the usual decor material inside and out.

This 1976 BMW B2 Alpina is one of very few B2 examples produced and benefits from a fresh, comprehensive, nut-and-bolt, rotisserie restoration completed by marque experts. The body was restored and resprayed in Fjord Blue with blue and green Alpina Deco Stripes. The engine, gearbox, rear axle, steering and suspension were all rebuilt. The undercarriage has been finished to the same quality as the top side, with painted floors and refinished suspension hardware, and the B2 Alpina’s outfitted with the signature front spoilers, lightweight Alpina wheels and period-correct striping that hints at the performance within. Inside, classic Alpina sport seats, a leather-wrapped steering wheel, and a bespoke Alpina instrument cluster create an environment that’s both luxurious and driver-focused. A refurbished set of factory-correct, iconic, 14-inch Alpina wheels are wrapped in modern radial tires. Documenting this special Alpina are a BMW Certificate, ownership history and receipts.

Produced in very limited numbers in 1976, the BMW Alpina B2 is an exceptionally rare discovery today. Whether showcased or driven, it embodies the ideal blend of 1970s European design, racing-inspired engineering and the distinct personality of Alpina.
