The Story

Italian for “Red Head,” the original Testa Rossa established Ferrari’s dominance in 1950s and 1960s sports car endurance racing with a heady combination of 12-cylinder power and unforgettable beauty. Three World Sports Car Championships and four overall victories at Le Mans cemented the Testa Rossa name in automotive lore, and in 1984 it returned in the form of a mid-engined flat-12-powered Gran Turismo wrapped in distinctly controversial styling by Pininfarina.

While the new Testarossa, as it was then called, debuted at the 1984 Paris Motor Show to divided reviews, it has long since attained lasting status as one of the best roadgoing Ferraris of the 20th century. Roomier, more comfortable and refined than the 512 Berlinetta Boxer it replaced, the Testarossa’s 4.9L flat-12 produced 390 HP, a figure that leapt to 422 in the succeeding 512TR launched at the Los Angeles Auto Show in 1992.

The 512TR advanced the Testarossa formula not only in terms of sheer output; a stiffer chassis, lighter suspension, upgraded disc brakes with 4-piston calipers and cross-drilled rotors, and wider tires on 18-inch alloy wheels greatly improved handling and roadholding. Pininfarina’s thoughtful styling revisions included new front and rear bumpers, driving lights and a new

eggcrate grille more in keeping with Ferrari tradition.

One of just 408 built for the U.S. market, this special 1992 Ferrari 512TR was sold new at Ferrari of Newport in Middletown, Rhode Island, as per the window sticker. Ordered new in Nero with a stunning Rosso leather interior, this example is extremely rare and uniquely different from most of the red/tan examples on the market. Since new, this example has been collector-owned and comes with incredible provenance not found in most other examples. Authenticated by Ferrari Classiche certification, this 512TR is as delivered and worthy of its accompanying Red Book. Additional documentation includes the window sticker, original owner’s manual, warranty booklet, leather pouch, tool case, car cover, a copy of its original title, and service history from new, complete with a recent major service performed at a Ferrari dealership.

The Ferrari 512 TR remains a quintessential 1990s supercar, capturing the essence of Ferrari’s legendary performance and styling while introducing subtle refinements that make it a true driver’s machine. This stunning 512TR has been lovingly cared for and extremely well kept by its previous ownership. Very few of these cars come this well documented, Ferrari Classiche certified, and in these ultra rare factory delivered colors, making it the ideal candidate for any collection.
