The Story

When Ford finally got its muscle car act together in 1969, its Mustang response was brilliant for the 1969 fastback’s new and more muscular shape: an additional model named for the “speed of sound” and packaged with plenty of high-performance image at an affordable price. The Mach 1 hit the nail on the head; more than 72,000 were sold in its first year of production. Although available with big-block engines, most 1969 Mach 1s left the factory with Ford’s 351 CI small-block, a brand-new powerplant based on the Windsor engine family.

This 1969 Ford Mustang Mach 1 was sold new at Morkens Service in Rushford, Minnesota, to its original owner who kept it in his possession for over 45 years. This example has remained in highly original condition finished in its factory color P5 Winter Blue paint with a black knit vinyl interior. This incredible survivor Mach 1 still retains its numbers-matching 351/4V engine backed by a 4-speed manual transmission and 3.25 Traction-Lok rear axle. As per the Marti report, other options include: the extra cooling package, shaker hood scoop, power front disc brakes, power steering, AM/FM radio, intermittent windshield wipers, tinted glass and heavy-duty battery.

Included in the sale of the special survivor Mach 1 are the Ford Owner card, registration documents from new service receipts, Marti report and more. In a sea of restored examples, survivor examples like this Mach 1 are extremely hard to find, especially in a complete and unaltered state.
