The Story
The legend of the Hemi Cuda convertible has extended far beyond the world of car collectors; it’s created a language all its own. The name has been flipped, with Hemi now preceding Cuda, and most people don’t even mention Plymouth anymore. In fact, some younger enthusiasts might not even realize that Plymouth was the original manufacturer. Given the recent surge in popularity of Hemi V-8-powered vehicles and the eventual disappearance of Plymouth as a brand, it’s not surprising that some might assume Hemi was the maker.
Regardless, the 14 Hemi Cuda convertibles produced in 1970 have become some of the most coveted and talked-about collector cars on the planet. Collectors are willing to spend seven figures on a car that, while mass-produced in a run of roughly 55,499 units, included only 14 of these specific E-body convertibles equipped with the legendary 426/425 HP Hemi engine housed under a long, wide hood and framed by curvaceous Coke-bottle-style fenders.
This stunning, rotisserie-restored 1970 Plymouth Barracuda Convertible is finished in the desirable shade of B5 Blue, which is complemented by a beautiful white vinyl bucket seat interior. Under the hood, it features a correct dual-quad 426/425 HP Hemi engine breathing through a Code N96 Shaker hood. This stout powerplant is backed by a 4-speed manual transmission, which makes for an engaging driving experience. Additional options include a Rallye dash with gauges, a rear wing, front chin spoilers, hood pins, a power top, Rallye wheels and an AM/FM stereo. The look of this Barracuda is finished off with a set of Magnum 500 wheels shod in Firestone Wide Oval bias-ply tires.
