The Story

Originally introduced in 1964 as an option package for the Pontiac Tempest, the GTO became a standalone model in 1966 due to its rising popularity. The 1966 model featured a redesigned, more aggressive body style with smooth, Coke-bottle contours and a split grille, giving it a bold and muscular look. This year also introduced the now-iconic vertically stacked quad headlights and a slightly longer, wider body.

Under the hood, the '66 GTO packed serious power. The standard engine was a 389 CI V-8 available with three different horsepower ratings: 335 HP with a 4-barrel carburetor, 360 HP with the optional Tri-Power setup (three 2-barrel carburetors), and a high-performance 389 H.O. version. Buyers could choose between a 3-speed manual, 4-speed manual or a 2-speed automatic transmission.

This 1966 Pontiac GTO is finished in its factory color of Candlelite Cream, which is complemented by a black Cordova Vinyl top and Code 223 Black vinyl interior. Under the hood it boasts a 389 CI V-8 accompanied by the sought-after Tri-Power carburetor setup, delivering exhilarating performance and unmistakable throttle response. The engine is paired with a 3-speed automatic and optioned with power steering and power brakes for a smooth cruising experience. Chrome trim, Rally wheels and the unmistakable GTO badging complete the period-correct appearance. With its combination of power, style and heritage, this 1966 Pontiac GTO in Candlelite Cream is a timeless icon that’s ready to turn heads and deliver an unforgettable driving experience.
