The Story
In 1967, Shelby took the Mustang GT350 concept a step further when the company began installing a 428 CI Police Interceptor V-8 engine into the newer body-style Mustang. Other performance improvements included replacing the Mustang’s front-end, hood, decklid, rear tail light assembly, quarter panel extensions and side scoops with fiberglass replacements. Now dubbed the GT500, 2,048 examples of this high-powered Shelby Mustang were produced in 1967, with production ultimately ending in 1969.
At the Los Angeles Auto Show in 2011, Ford and Shelby American unveiled a new, second-generation Shelby GT500, which was touted as the most powerful Mustang to date. At its heart was a 5.8L, DOHC, 4-valve, supercharged and intercooled V-8 engine that produced 662 HP and 631 lb-ft of torque at 4,000 RPM. With all that horsepower being fed through a Tremec 6-speed manual transmission, the new GT500 was capable of a claimed top speed of 202 MPH. This was the most powerful muscle car for its year and raised the bar for modern muscle car performance
This 2014 Ford Shelby GT500 is finished in optional Ruby Red Metallic over a black leather interior. Sold new at Motor Inn of Spirit Lake in Spirit Lake, Iowa, this GT500 comes highly optioned with a 3.31-ratio limited-slip rear end, over-the-top stripes, heated seats, the SVT track package, the electronics package with navigation, a glass roof, low-gloss black tape stripe, a Shaker pro audio system and a Shelby car cover. With only 1,330 miles from new, example looks showroom new on the top and bottom too. Accompanying the sale are a window sticker, two keys, owners manuals and dealer brochures.
