The Story
The Shelby GT500 has always been the pinnacle of the GT lineup, but the 2021 model sets an entirely new benchmark for performance. Originally introduced in 2020, the GT500's aptly named Predator V-8 engine is a hand-built, supercharged, 5.2L, cross-plane crank powerhouse delivering an impressive 760 HP at 7,300 RPM and 625 lb-ft of torque at 5,000 RPM. Power is channeled through a 7-speed dual-clutch automatic transmission with paddle shifters, steering wheel controls and an oil cooler, ultimately reaching a Torsen 3.73:1 limited-slip rear differential. This setup propels the GT500 from zero to 60 MPH in just 3.8 seconds. But straight-line speed is only part of the equation; its track-ready prowess is enhanced by Sport-Tuned Adaptive Suspension, programmable MagneRide damping and Brembo disc brakes.
For 2021, the optional Carbon Fiber Track Package elevated the GT500’s capabilities even further, adding Michelin Pilot Sport Cup 2 tires wrapped around 20-inch exposed carbon fiber wheels, adjustable front strut top mounts, an exposed carbon fiber instrument panel, a GT4 rear wing and rear seat delete.
