The Story
The 1967 model year Mustang was the first redesign of the original model. Ford's designers began drawing up a larger version even as the original was achieving sales success. The major mechanical feature was to allow the installation of a big-block V-8 engine. The overall size, interior and cargo space were increased. Exterior trim changes included concave taillights, side scoop (1967 model) and chrome (1968 model) side ornamentation, square rearview mirrors, and usual yearly wheel and gas cap changes. The high-performance 289 option was placed behind the newer 390 CI making 320 HP, which was equipped with a 4-barrel carburetor.
This GT Fastback was sold new at Harrold Ford in Sacramento, California, to its original owner on May 15, 1967. Optioned from the factory with an A-code 289 CI-4v backed by a 4-speed manual transmission and equipped with a 3.00 standard rear end, it is finished in the attractive and classic factory ordered colors of Candy Apple Red with red bucket seat vinyl interior. This example came highly optioned from the factory including GT equipment group (which consisted of power front disc brakes, grille-mounted fog lights, dual exhaust with quad outlets), closed crankcase emission system, exhaust emission control, power steering, AM radio, tinted glass and deluxe seatbelts.
Today, this Mustang GT presents in excellent condition having undergone a rotisserie restoration. Shortly after the restoration was completed, this GT was judged at the MCA concours event in Bloomington, Minnesota, where it won MCA Gold. Important with any collector car, this Mustang is documented with a deluxe Marti Report, MCA judging sheets and more. The 1967 Ford Mustang GT Fastback is an icon of pony car design and it has truly stood the test of time, as it is considered by many to be one of the most important Mustang models ever produced.
