1970 Pontiac GTO Judge Convertible

High-horsepower convertible muscle cars have always been at the top of the food chain in regards to rarity and collectability. With only 168 GTO Judge convertibles built in 1970, any one of them could justifiably be considered rare, but this Starlight Black 1970 Judge convertible with a Sandalwood bucket-seat interior really defines the word. It is one of just 14 4-speed Judge convertibles produced in 1970 with air conditioning, and it’s also one of just three factory Starlight Black 4-speed Judges known to exist.

Additionally, this Judge convertible is equipped with 25 factory options, including power steering and power front disc brakes, the aforementioned air conditioning, power windows, power bucket seats, a console, the Ride and Handling package, an AM/FM radio with windshield antenna, left-hand remote mirror, the Rally Gauge Cluster with clock, a hood tachometer, a Formula steering wheel, front and rear floor mats, Soft Ray tinted glass, custom seat belts, remote trunk release, underhood and luggage compartment lamps, door edge guards, a spare tire cover and a heavy-duty battery.

Under the hood is the matching-numbers 366 HP Ram Air III version of the Pontiac 400 CI V-8, which is backed by the matching-numbers Muncie M20 wide-ratio 4-speed transmission with Hurst shifter and T-handle, as well as a Safe-T-Track limited-slip differential. In addition to the functional twin hood scoops and specific air cleaner, the Ram Air III featured a special long-duration hydraulic camshaft and free-flowing cast-iron headers. It was one of Pontiac’s most versatile performance engines.

With documentation from PHS authenticating its provenance, incredible options and matching-numbers drivetrain, this exceptionally rare 1970 GTO Judge convertible is also a very desirable example of the breed. It would be an excellent centerpiece for a well-curated collection or museum.
