The Story

To celebrate the Trans Am’s tenth anniversary, Pontiac introduced one of the most distinctive and luxurious editions ever produced—the 1979 Pontiac Trans Am 10th Anniversary Edition. Distinguished by its exclusive two-tone Platinum and Charcoal exterior, silver leather interior and special 10th Anniversary graphics, this limited-edition model represented the pinnacle of Trans Am style and performance at the close of the 1970s muscle era.

One of only 817 examples built with the 400 CI V-8 and 4-speed manual transmission, and further distinguished as one of approximately 366 produced with factory air conditioning (C60), this particular car stands out as an exceptional example, showing just 16 miles on the odometer at the time of writing. It remains garage-kept and part of a private collection, preserving its originality and showroom condition. The original window sticker is still affixed to the driver’s side window, a testament to its authenticity and time-capsule status.

Factory-equipped with the desirable WS6 performance handling package, this Trans Am features the 400 CI V-8 engine paired with a 4-barrel carburetor and 4-speed manual transmission, delivering the last of Pontiac’s true big-block performance. Additional features include T-tops with bag covers, a tilt steering column, air conditioning, a Delco AM/FM stereo with 8-track player, power windows and locks, silver seat belts and a center console with medium gray trim that complements the silver leather upholstery.

Originally sold new at Arlikas Pontiac in Aurora, Illinois, this 10th Anniversary Trans Am represents one of the finest preserved examples known. Notably, a similar 10th Anniversary Edition was selected as the official pace car of the 1979 Daytona 500, underscoring the prestige and performance pedigree of this model. This is an extraordinary opportunity to own an essential piece of Pontiac history: an 18-mile, WS6-equipped Trans Am with the 400 CI V-8, 4-speed and factory air conditioning that is one of only 366 produced and remains virtually untouched since new.
