2006 Ford Mustang Saleen S281 Extreme

Saleen Automotive, known for its high-performance sports cars, was established in 1983 originally as "Saleen Autosport" by Steve Saleen, a former professional Formula Atlantic race-car driver. In 1985, Steve Saleen put the first certified supercharger on a production Saleen Mustang. Since then, they have created some of the coolest high-performance Mustangs known to exist and have become extremely desirable to collectors.

This 2006 Ford Mustang Saleen S281 offered here was delivered new to Ramey Ford of Johnson City, Tennessee, and is one of only 153 Extreme models produced for the model year. Powered by a supercharged 4.6L V-8 mated to a 6-speed manual transmission and a limited-slip differential, the engine is equipped with a Saleen Series IV screw-type supercharger, forged aluminum pistons, forged steel connecting rods and ported aluminum cylinder heads. Output was factory rated at 550 HP and 500 lb-ft of torque.

The car is finished in Redfire Red over dark charcoal leather and is one of only 10 built in this color configuration. Equipment includes Saleen bodywork, 20-inch wheels, Saleen engine components, Racecraft suspension, cruise control, air conditioning and a Shaker 500 sound system. Racecraft suspension components consist of linear rate front and rear springs, Saleen dampers, a front sway bar and a three-link rear suspension with a Panhard bar. The 4-wheel disc brakes have been upgraded with 6-piston front calipers over 15-inch rotors.

Collector-owned from new, this example only shows 1,700 miles and is offered with a window sticker, manufacturer’s literature, correspondence from Saleen and a clean Carfax report. The Saleen Mustangs are becoming increasingly popular and collector examples like this one are becoming blue chip investments.
