The Story
Though limited in number, the 2018 Dodge Challenger SRT Demon could be optioned in various ways. While you could also buy one in brighter colors, ordering this not shadow-chaser in Pitch Black paint was fitting. Now showing 7,050 miles, the Demon here shows off what made these cars so notorious when released.
Of course, the heart of that was the supercharged 6.2L/808 HP Hemi V-8 engine. This redesigned HEMI was released specifically to power this car, and this overall vehicle packaging was never repeated. SRT engineers developed the model as a raw experience of acceleration, with an engine intercooler and post-run chiller as part of its design. The IHI blower fits nicely atop the engine, with an inset demon-head casting head fitted onto its front edge. Nicely seated down into the black engine bay, the engine is still no-nonsense from every angle. This was backed by the reworked 8-speed automatic transmission, computer-balanced to the engine’s momentary needs and featuring an integral trans-brake. It also features both floor and paddle shifter operation. The Limited Slip Differential completed this driveline, and the car’s Drag Mode suspension includes All Speed traction control, a Line-Loc and Brembo 4-piston lightweight brakes.
The Pitch Black exterior is matched by a black interior, which has ventilated and heated front seats and the rear seat option. The Comfort Audio Group includes a Harman Kardon GreenEdge amplifier, while the large dash-centered LCD screen lets you easily dial in your specific performance desires as needed. The heated steering wheel is on a power tilt and telescopic steering column, with the 7,000 RPM tach and 200 MPH speedometer behind them. Outside is the unmistakable wide-design hood scoop, the illuminated Air-Catcher inner headlamps, Demon identification, functional front and rear spoilers, widebody fender flares and massive 18x11-inch aluminum wheels. The car which needed no excuses, the 2018 Demon will always be a milestone in automotive engineering. Here in Pitch Black, nobody will ever see you coming (just going!)
