The Story
Chevrolet introduced the midsize Chevelle in 1964 to fit between the full-sized Chevrolet and the compact Chevy II. Although incorporating much of the same structure beneath the skin, Chevrolet’s popular A-body Chevelle received updated sheet metal for 1966. For 1967, the Chevelle received a moderate facelift with new front fenders, a hood with twin chromed blisters, and a rear-end treatment.
Body lines were more curvaceous than previous models, and a tunneled rear window design and coke-bottle contours were shared with all GM intermediates. The Super Sport became a separate series distinguished by SS badging and two distinctive side-facing hood vents. Upgrades featured all-vinyl bucket seats, a console, special instrumentation, SS trim and wheel covers, and the 396 CI big-block V-8. Base 396s produced 325 HP, while 360 and 375 HP versions were optional for those who wanted a bit more performance out of their Chevelles.
This striking Chevelle was the recipient of a body-off restoration finished in Marina Blue accented by a blue vinyl bucket seat interior. Equipped with a 396 CI engine backed by a 4-speed manual transmission and 12-bolt rear end, this Chevelle has all the requisite muscle car options including power front disc brakes, power steering, console and special console clock. The appearance package is finished off with a set of redline tires on silver-painted Rally wheels with bright trim rings.
