1969 Chevrolet COPO Camaro

The legendary COPO Camaros produced in 1969 are among the most sought-after Camaros ever built by the factory. Unlike many performance cars of the time, these Camaros carried absolutely no external identification stating the engine size or horsepower. With their incredible performance from the L72 427 CI V-8 and the rarity of not even being an advertised option, they have an incredible following.

The Central Office Production Order (COPO) process was a method for dealers or GM itself to request the manufacture of vehicles configured differently than the previously planned models for that model year. As GM had a corporate policy that limited F-Body and X-Body cars to 400 CI engines, special dealers used the COPO process to get around this policy and install the best GM high-performance engines into their favorite platforms.

This 1969 COPO Camaro was sold new at Maxton Chevrolet in Columbus, Ohio, to its original owner Joseph Patrick. Patrick factory ordered his new COPO in desirable Code 10 Tuxedo Black paint with a red pinstripe and black interior, which makes this COPO a rare example. Opening the hood reveals the L72 427/425 HP COPO engine backed by a Muncie M22 Rock Crusher 4-speed transmission that sends power to the factory 4.56-geared 12-bolt differential. This COPO came optioned with an AM radio, door edge guards, power disc brakes, a cowl induction hood and Rallye wheels with white pinstripe tires.

The COPO received a comprehensive, no expense spared, rotisserie, nut-and-bolt restoration, during which the body of this vehicle was gone over from front to back and top to bottom. Many original and NOS components were used throughout the restoration to ensure the highest level of correctness. Once completed, this COPO was shown at the 2010 Camaro Nationals, where it received Legends Certification, an honor that has only been awarded to a select few cars. This COPO is truly for the collector who appreciates the highest level of restoration quality.
