1970 Chevrolet Chevelle LS6 Convertible

Chevrolet first introduced the intermediate-sized Chevelle in 1964, and it became an immediate sales success. The popular car was just what America wanted, as Chevrolet sold more than 440,000 of them in 1970, with ads stating the Chevelle’s “performance starts as soon as you’re seated.” The Chevelle in SS454 guise was known as the corporate A-Body at General Motors, serving as the Bowtie brand’s muscle car variant, with the LS6 Turbo-Jet 454 CI V-8 option featured on this car backing that up. The big-block motor produced an advertised 450 HP at 5,600 RPM and 500 lb-ft of torque at 3,600—the highest performance numbers of the muscle car era. It was a factory option anybody could walk in and order for just an extra $263.30, and some 4,475 buyers made that choice, rewarded with higher insurance premiums to go along with the high performance.

This original 1970 LS6 convertible was sold new at Sinclair Motors Ltd. This LS6 Chevelle was factory ordered in Desert Sand Metallic, which is complemented with black Stripes and a black vinyl interior. It is powered by a matching-numbers LS6 engine and a matching-numbers M22 4-speed transmission. The factory options listed on the GM of Canada documentation and original build sheet include the LS6 engine, 4-speed transmission, G80 Positraction rear axle, 3.31-ratio gears, power steering and disc brakes, power top, cowl-induction hood, an AM radio, tinted glass and, of course, the F41 suspension to help keep this LS6 in line. This very rare Chevelle has been nut-and-bolt, frame-off restored to an impeccable standard. Its factory paint was wet sanded and polished to a show-quality finish, and the undercarriage and engine bay were detailed to OEM specifications with correct chalk markings and tags.

The 1970 Chevrolet Chevelle LS6 was one of the greatest muscle cars of the period and this is one of only a handful that were factory ordered as convertible. An investment grade collectible, it is well documented with the original build sheet and GM Canada documentation. With its documentation, ultra rarity and outstanding condition, this LS6 Chevelle convertible would make for an awe-inspiring addition to any major muscle car collection.
