The Story
The 1969 Chevrolet Camaro RS (Rally Sport) is one of the most recognizable muscle cars of all time. Known for its aggressive styling, performance options and distinctive hideaway headlights, the RS package added an extra layer of sophistication to the already legendary Camaro lineup. The Rally Sport package (RPO Z22) was an appearance upgrade that included concealed headlamps, revised tail lights with back-up lights below the bumper, a special grille and trim, and unique badging.
This 1969 Chevrolet Camaro RS offered here is an unbelievable example retaining its original factory paint, interior and matching-numbers engine, and it’s accompanied by incredible documentation, which is all a testament to its well-preserved history. It was sold new at Don Steves Chevrolet in La Habra, California, to its original owner for a final price of $3,619. Optional equipment included Soft Ray tinted glass, head restraints, floor mats, air conditioning, a console, power steering, an AM radio, the Rally Sport package and E70x14 tires.
Finished in its factory-applied Code 55 Azure Turquoise, this Camaro was awarded Legends Certification and best original paint at the ACA Camaro Nationals. From new, it has only accumulated a mere 29,974 miles and has been owned by some very prominent collectors. Under the hood, this Camaro RS features a matching-numbers 327 CI Turbo-Fire engine backed by the optional 3-speed automatic transmission, delivering the performance that made these muscle cars legendary. The interior remains in excellent condition, maintaining its original upholstery, dash and trim and showcasing the originality of this special Rally Sport.
The documentation accompanying this special Camaro is impressive and a testament to the care taken by previous ownership. Some of the items include the window sticker, bill of sale with salesman’s card stapled to the top, the predelivery checklist, Protect-O-Plate, an owner’s manual, the finance agreement, judging sheets and more. It was also featured in Muscle Car Review magazine, which described the incredible original condition of this Camaro.
With its unrestored originality, this 1969 Chevrolet Camaro RS is a rare find in today’s market. Whether you’re a collector seeking an authentic example or a classic car enthusiast who appreciates an unrestored example, this Camaro stands as a remarkable piece of American automotive history.
