The Story
The 1969 Camaro Z10s, known by most enthusiasts as “pace car coupes,” are the extremely rare hardtop versions of the popular Indy pace car replicas. They’re believed by most to be rarer than their convertible counterparts, as they were built for a very limited region in the southwestern United States. All Z10 coupes were painted in Code 50 Dover White with Hugger Orange stripes and matching white rocker panels. They also all came standard with the D80 spoilers, ZJ7 rally wheels, ZL2 cowl induction hood, Z22 Rally Sport package and Z27 Super Sport package. They were all built in Norwood, and all of them received the Z10 stamp on their cowl tags, making them some of the easiest Camaros to document. A vast majority of the Z10s were small-block cars, though some were equipped with the L35 or L34 396 CI big-block.
This Z10 Camaro was sold new at Courtesy Chevrolet in Phoenix, Arizona, and it has been beautifully restored in its Code 50 Dover White paint with an Ivory White houndstooth interior. It’s powered by the optional L34 396/350 HP big-block V-8, which is mated to a Turbo 400 3-speed automatic transmission sending power to a 3:31 Positraction rear end. This Z10 is outfitted with a laundry list of options including A01 tinted glass, B37 front and rear mats, the C08 vinyl roof, C60 four-season air conditioning, a D55 center console, D80 spoilers, the NC8 chambered exhaust, N33 tilt steering wheel, N40 power steering, U17 special instrumentation, the U63 pushbutton AM radio, U80 rear seat speaker, ZJ7 rally wheels, ZK3 deluxe seat and shoulder belt, a ZL2 ducted hood, Z10 special accent striping, Z22 rally sport equipment and Z27 SS equipment. With only 300-500 examples estimated to have been built, and far fewer big-block cars, this Z10 coupe is among some of the rarest first-generation Camaros produced.
