1969 Chevrolet Yenko Camaro

At the height of the muscle car era, many dealers were heavily involved in racing programs; that sometimes rolled over into street cars. Many of the dealers would offer certain packages or add-ons to performance cars. Nickey Chevrolet, Berger Chevrolet and Baldwin Motion were great examples, but perhaps the most famous is Yenko Chevrolet. For 1969, utilizing GM’s COPO ordering system, Don Yenko’s Canonsburg, Pennsylvania, dealership provided incredible performance in the Camaro with the L72 427 CI V-8 engine, all the while adding Yenko’s own additions. A total of 201 were produced in one of six available colors.

Presented here is a comprehensively rotisserie-restored example of the 1969 Yenko Camaro. Sold new at M.B. Francis Chevrolet in Brighton, Missouri, this rotisserie-restored LeMans Blue Yenko Camaro with white striping and a black interior showcases many of the more popular features. It’s powered by the L72 427 CI V-8 that was rated at 425 HP and is here backed up with a Muncie M21 close-ratio 4 speed transmission. The Yenko SC specific striping and Torq Thrust-style wheels give the car an impressive look that is complemented by the “sYc” embroidery on the seatbacks and finished off with the column-mounted Sun tachometer and three-gauge pod under the dash—additions to an otherwise sparse yet purposeful interior.

This Yenko Camaro is a great example of the rarest of the rare, a special edition of the extremely sought after COPO Camaro that was an instant legend the day certain folks discovered COPO Code 9561. This Yenko Camaro is listed in the Supercar registry, which documents how it was originally delivered new. With only 201 produced and most of them used for racing, there’s only so many remaining today, making this real Yenko that much more special and a great addition to any muscle car collection.
