1989 Pontiac Turbo Trans Am Pace Car Edition Coupe

For the 73rd Indianapolis 500, Pontiac was asked to produce a worthy pace car that would be capable of the task. Working with Performance Automotive Systems (PAS) in City of Industry, California, to modify the turbocharged 3.8L V-6 used in the Buick Grand National, Pontiac installed the engine into white Trans Ams with a tan interior and gold mesh wheels with specialized badges and decals, creating the 20th Anniversary Turbo Trans Am. Car and Driver declared the TTA to be the quickest and fastest American production car with 0-60 MPH in just over 4 seconds and a top speed over 160 MPH.

Only 1,555 were ever produced, and this particular car was originally sold new at Moorman Pontiac Inc. in Dayton, Ohio. This special T/A remains today in highly original condition. It retains its original window sticker, owners manuals, PHS, brochures and much more.

The 20th Anniversary Trans Am package came standard with a host of options including high performance brakes, fuel system, special turbo instrumentation, polished stainless steel exhaust tips, folding rear seats and a high-capacity cooling system. An AM/FM cassette stereo with a graphic equalizer was standard issue on this Turbo Trans Am, along with air conditioning and a 4-speed automatic with overdrive. The most popular and desirable were optioned with a leather interior and T-tops, like this car. Certainly one of the most exciting Trans Ams ever built, this Turbo Trans Am is a collector-quality third-generation F-Body.
