The Story
Launched to high anticipation for 2020, Chevrolet’s new eighth-generation Corvette Stingray rewrote sports car history as the first mid-engine Corvette ever produced. It also marked the fulfillment of a long-time goal held by GM legend Zora Arkus-Duntov, the original Corvette chief engineer. When the new ‘Vette was finally released for sale and available for road testing, the car certainly delivered with its mid-mounted 6.2L V-8 engine uprated by 30 horsepower to 495 ponies, delivered by a cutting-edge 8-speed dual-clutch transmission. In contrast to the prior 755 HP ZR1, the 495 HP Corvette tested by Motor Trend magazine accelerated quicker from 0 to 60 MPH and nearly matched the prior ZR1 over the quarter mile, thanks to the traction afforded by the new model’s 61% rear-weight bias and new launch control setup. Roadholding and braking of the new Corvette are awesome to match its forward urge.
Featuring the driver-focused Z51 Performance Package and 2LT trim and interior option, this retina-searing Torch Red-over-Adrenaline Red 2020 Corvette Convertible is offered with just 2,195 miles at the time of writing. Featuring the 6.2L/495 HP V-8 engine in concert with an 8-speed dual-clutch automatic transmission, this electrifying eighth-generation Corvette’s $5,000 Z51 Performance Package raises the performance bar even further with special high-performance brakes, suspension tuning and a specific rear spoiler. Other high-performance features include an electronic limited-slip differential, heavy-duty cooling system and performance exhaust system. The desirable 2LT option package includes standard heated/ventilated seats, wireless device charging, an upgraded 14-speaker Bose stereo system, navigation, and a heated steering wheel.
Despite its primary performance mission, this 2020 Chevrolet Corvette Convertible is deceptively luxurious with GT2 bucket seats and a suede microfiber steering wheel, with entertainment provided by the Chevrolet Infotainment System 3 and Bose Performance Series 14-speaker audio system. Cutting-edge technologies include a heads-up display, an HD front curb view camera and Performance data and video recorder. All-season comfort is delivered by dual-zone climate control. Riding on a set of 19- and 20-inch trident-spoke machine-faced Spectra aluminum wheels, this 2LT and Z51-equipped Corvette is simply a modern Supercar in all respects.
